Each morning Kari Jones, RN, wakes up to a text that tells her exactly where she’s going that day. One day she might be assigned to a geriatric unit at Bryan East Campus, and then the next, she’s helping at the Emergency Department on Bryan West Campus. As a float nurse, the unknown is just a part of the job – and she’s been doing it for nearly 30 years. “I like change,” she said. “It's nice, because everybody's always happy to see me.” Read Kari's full story here: https://lnkd.in/ewNE3ze9

When a family member or friend of a sick person needs a space for prayer and peace, they can go to one of two chapels at Bryan Health campuses in Lincoln. This week’s #BeautyatBryan highlights the Mundhenke Chapel on Bryan East Campus and the Osborne Chapel on Bryan West Campus. The chapels are a place where people of all faiths – or no faith – can come to find comfort. Beautiful stained-glass windows and paintings adorn the chapel walls to provide a soothing environment. Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the chapels are always available for visitor use. The chapels are just one element of the pastoral care at Bryan Health, which focuses on the spiritual side of care.

When she heard the news, Lynn was ready to “let the cancer take me” instead of going through treatment. A childhood trauma made the idea of losing control over her body and environment terrifying. It’s very real. Past trauma can have a devastating effect on patients in need of care. Fortunately, the team at Bryan Medical Center knows this and took extra steps to care for Lynn. Meet the dynamic duo that entered her life to help her through treatment: https://lnkd.in/gUJAF92T

Congratulations to Kayla Wemhoff, RN, on receiving a DAISY Award. "Recently, my father experienced a medical emergency when he fell and suffered two brain bleeds. In the midst of this challenging time, Kayle went above and beyond providing him with the highest level of care and support. From the moment she stepped into his room, Kayla's compassionate and nurturing demeanor immediately put us at ease. Kayla's exceptional care extended far beyond the confines of her job description. She treated my father not just as a patient but as a beloved family member, providing him with the dignity, respect and compassion he deserved. Her unwavering commitment to excellence and her ability to uplift and inspire those around her make her a true healthcare hero." Thank you for being helpful and welcoming, Kayla! We are proud of you. The DAISY Award recognizes outstanding nurses at Bryan.

Eight months ago, Maddie Rott couldn’t walk. On Sunday, she ran in the Lincoln Half Marathon. Maddie is from San Diego and is currently a junior at the University of Tennessee. During an internship in Michigan last summer, she suffered a serious reaction to a prescribed medication. Her parents flew to her to drive her home. They had to stop at an urgent care west of Lincoln due to Maddie’s deteriorating condition. She was quickly transported by helicopter to Bryan Medical Center. Maddie spent nearly 11 weeks at the center. She had to re-learn simple, everyday tasks at inpatient rehab. She returned to Lincoln last weekend to run in the race with Riley Johnson, an occupational therapist who treated Maddie. They crossed the finish line hand-in-hand, with Maddie wearing the same shoes in which she learned to walk again. Check out Maddie's inspiring story from KOLN 10/11 News.

Loss, fear, faith and trust. While these words can describe many moments in our lives, they have special meaning to those who lived and worked through the COVID-19 pandemic. They are just a few of the sentiments captured in beautiful murals created by artist Eddie Dominguez to share with our community. The murals honor the dedication and perseverance of Bryan Health employees to help guide Nebraskans through this extraordinary time. We invite you to enjoy their beauty. On Bryan West Campus, three pillars adorn the front sidewalk of the facility. On Bryan East Campus, a mural stretches across the wall of a parking garage. Both feature words and phrases submitted by Bryan Health employees that represent feelings surrounding the pandemic. The pieces, created by University of Nebraska-Lincoln art professor Eddie Dominguez, were exclusively funded by donors to recognize the sacrifices made by Bryan employees. What are your favorite places on our campuses to experience #BeautyatBryan?
